Collecting, Maintaining & Safeguarding Information

Client information refers to data that identifies or relates to a client, whether the client is an individual or a company. It includes information such as name, address, age, gender, identification numbers, assets, liabilities, income, payment records, health records and driving record.

In the case of a business client, it includes the above data plus names of officers / directors / owners / shareholders, fiscal year end, jurisdiction of incorporation, financial information, and the ownership structure and organization of the business.

You can help us maintain accurate records by letting us know when changes occur in your situation so we can update our records accordingly.

Most of the information we maintain concerning our clients is stored in computers that have built-in safeguards to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of that information.

Share Information with Others

We will only disclose information to third parties about you in the following circumstances:

  1. Where you have provided your prior written consent; or
  2. Where we are compelled to do so by the laws of the jurisdiction in which you hold your account; or
  3. Where it is necessary to protect or defend Royal Bank of Canada group's interests (for example, if we need to return a cheque due to lack of funds); or
  4. Where it is in the public interest to do so (for example, where an account is held for an enemy in times of war); or
  5. Where we need to disclose information to other financial institutions for the purposes of fraud prevention.
